Q&A with Amanda Sherlock, Digital Marketing Intern

Amanda is from New Jersey and is a rising senior at the University of Tampa studying International Business and Marketing. This summer she has been working with the Marketing Communications and Insights team, with a focus on digital strategy! She has been conducting research and gathering best practices to help Puratos grow their share of voice on various platforms. Additionally, she has been spending some time with our very own Kayla Doughshaw to help generate and create content!

1. How did you find out about this internship, and what motivated you to apply for it?

I found this internship on LinkedIn while I was studying abroad this past semester and was immediately interested in the international aspect of the company. Puratos’ mission and goals stuck out to me, and the Digital Marketing Intern role provided opportunities to learn and to grow within the team. I was especially excited to learn more about social media and product communication.

2. Could you describe a typical day as an intern in this role?

A typical day for me usually involves 1:1 meetings with members of the marketing team, or other departments throughout Puratos to learn more about the positions that contribute to the company. My day also involves working on tasks like social posts, recipe uploads for the website or filming content across all SBUs.

3. What projects or tasks did you work on during your internship, and which one was the most challenging or rewarding for you?

My projects throughout the summer fell under website and social media tasks. Some of these included uploading recipes to the website, creating social posts for food holidays, assisting on DEI campaigns, and creating boards and pins on Pinterest. My main project, though, has been to complete a competitive analysis and recommendations for social, that I am presenting to the team in a couple of weeks. Having my own long-term project that I have been able to learn through and share with the marketing team, has been really rewarding.

4. What advice would you give to other students or individuals considering the same internship or a similar role?

I would say to just go for it! If you put your time and effort into something, especially a job, it can be very rewarding. Especially at Puratos, you will be surrounded by caring and smart individuals who only want to see and help you succeed. If considering an internship in a similar role, don’t be afraid to be creative and express your ideas to the team members who are definitely willing to listen to you.

5. What skills or knowledge do you feel you gained or improved upon the most during your internship?

I definitely improved my general knowledge of marketing. Coming into this company, I didn’t realize a marketing team could be so big and filled with many different positions. Aside from the digital aspect, I learned more about product management and customer marketing, and even got to see tools and websites that the team uses daily. On a personal level, I feel that I improved upon my communication skills, both online and in person through my social media and website tasks, but also during my meetings and presentations.
